BOTOX® Cosmetic injections are one of the most frequent procedures I perform at the Paveloff Aesthetic Laser Center. I treat men and women of all ages from all over the Santa Barbara area. BOTOX® Cosmetic injections are a highly diluted derivative of Botulinum Toxin Type A found to be extremely safe in treating neuromuscular disorders. The FDA approved the use of BOTOX® Cosmetic in 2002 for cosmetic use. BOTOX® Cosmetic is the only treatment of its type approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for the temporary improvement of moderate to severe frown lines between the brows. What's more, unlike many procedures and over-the-counter wrinkle remedies, BOTOX® Cosmetic treats the cause of these frown lines by reducing the muscle contractions that cause the lines to form over time.

You may see creams or gels advertised, or products that claim to be "better than BOTOX." However, none of these products is associated with BOTOX® Cosmetic. The fact is, there is only one BOTOX® Cosmetic.

BOTOX® Cosmetic injections are directly injected into the muscles you want to relax..BOTOX® enters the nerve endings to block the release of acetylcholine, the chemical that causes muscles to contract. BOTOX® Cosmetic is extremely specific in how it reacts to block the release of acetylcholine so only the muscles I inject are relaxed. Once the muscles are at rest, the skin becomes smoother, creating a more natural and relaxed appearance.

BOTOX® Cosmetic injections typically last from 3-6 months. The rare side effects of getting a BOTOX® Cosmetic injection, such as a droopy eye, are only temporary. BOTOX® Cosmetic injections are a great way to reduce your facial wrinkles. With continued use of BOTOX® Cosmetic your wrinkles become less and less noticable and frequently disappear. BOTOX® Cosmetic injections are not a permanent solution to wrinkles. You must keep up with your BOTOX® Cosmetic treatments or your wrinkles will come back. Most people come in 2-4 times per year for BOTOX® Cosmetic injections.

For the past 5 years, it has also been recognized that BOTOX® can dramatically reduce excessive sweating (Botox for hyperhidrosis). If injected under the arms, it can often reduce sweating completely. People usually request re-injecting 6 - 9 months later, even though only some of the sweating has returned.
